Hi Folks,

Seems a long time since I've pecked out one of these
quarterlies. You'd expect I would have learned to actually type by now (using more
than one finger). Nope.

May 15, 16, and 17 found us on the western edge of a vast
encampment, teeming, seething and throbbing with Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and
Scouters of all stripes. CONN-JAM '09 at the Orange Fairgrounds seemed to
literally overflow with all manner of activities and exhibits. Archery, BB
gun range, model planes. monkey bridge, mini-golf, arrowhead napping, rope
making, blacksmithing, SCUBA, kayaking and much more, not to mention the
really big evening show, which began with a talented and truly tenacious Cub
musician. A wonderful time was had by all.

Old Mine Park was the scene on June 5th, 6th and 7th for Pack
468's annual picnic. The weather was fine and everyone left with a smile.

Boston and the Freedom Trail was the destination for this
years summer trip on July 5th, 6th and 7th. We camped on one of many islands
in Boston harbor (a very impressive recreational system) and rode a
succession of ferries back and forth. The island Rangers kept the Youth busy with
tideline campfires that included area lore and ghost stories. A hike around
the island introduced the boys to island flora, fauna and shellfisha.
Fireworks from multiple compass points lit up the night sky on the 4th and 5th'.
Freedom Trail stops included Old Ironsides, Bunker Hill, Paul Reveres
House, Faneuil Hall, Old State House, City Hall and Boston Commons. Mini-golf
topped off the trip home. Kudos to the Rapillo family for arranging a very
satisfying and educational trip.

August 2nd thru the 9th was Yawgoog, theme "Under The Sea".
The boys (and adults) had an entire week of perfect weather to pursue
myriad opportunities for fun and advancement. Boating, Hiking (the Hiker of
Yawgoog segment was awarded to not a few scouts), Swimming, High and Low Ropes,
COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience), Any Merit Badge You
Desire, Consumption of All Manner Of Food, Scavenger Hunt, Themed Food Offering,
Fishing, Root Beer Floats, Island Overnight (including an artful and
entertaining rowing exhibition by Mr. Rapillo), HAT (Handicapped Awareness
Trail), Swim Carnival and, of course, the Really Big Show. Sunday included
Breakfast, Religious Services(a Scout is Reverent), the Really Big Mass Parade
and a huge tire induced dust cloud signaling the mass exodus of tired,
happy, well-advanced campers.

That's All, Folks. Next month, Camp Pomperaug. A new
frontier.

                 Al Terry, ASM
